Minority Achievement Award

Nominations have now closed. Thank you for your support of our great faculty and staff. This award honors an individual of any race or ethnic background whose efforts have attracted minority students to AU and/or whose efforts have contributed to the success, retention and graduation rates of minority students at AU. Additionally, this award honors an individual who has contributed to improved race relations and fostered a sense of community within the university. The recipient will be presented $1,000 and a plaque.

2009 Minority Achievement Award Winner

Nels Madsen

Nels Madsen, a mechanical engineering professor at Auburn University, has served as the adviser to the Auburn Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers for several years and played a key role in the creation and success of the AT&T Minority Engineering Program in the Samuel E. Ginn
College of Engineering.

“Dr. Madsen has demonstrated a humble commitment to improving the opportunity for minority students to be successful in the field of engineering,” says Dewayne R. Sanders '90, Senior Engineer, for Houston-based ExxonMobil Chemical.
