Advisory Board
The Auburn Magazine Advisory Board is a group of 18 outstanding alumni and friends in the fields of journalism, business, magazine production, graphic design, etc., who meet regularly on campus to provide input, advice, and support for the regular magazine staff.
Kay Fuston '84 | Chairman
Kay is editor of Coastal Living magazine, a publication of Southern Progress
Corp., based in Birmingham..
John Carvalho '78
John is an assistant professor of journalism and head of the journalism program
at Auburn University. A former editor of The Plainsman, he worked for 14
years as a journalist and holds a master's degree from Cal State Fullerton
and a
doctorate from the University of North Carolina. He was named chair of Auburn
University's mass communication department in 2001 and director of the journalism
program in 2004.
Susan Dendy '79
Susan is art director of Cooking Light magazine, a publication of the Southern Progress Corp. in Birmingham.
Ed Dickinson '70
Ed is retired after 22 years with the Birmingham-based Southern Progress Corp., where he was publisher of Progressive Farmer magazine.
Christian Flathman '97
Christian is director of marketing and communications for Georgia Southern
University in Statesboro, Ga., where he oversees media relations and the
university magazine, among other duties. He previously served in global communications
and marketing management at GE and Michelin.
Tom Ford '67
Tom is retired art director of Southern Living magazine, published by Southern Progress Corporation in Birmingham.
Mary Lou Foy '66
Mary Lou is style/investigative picture editor for The Washington Post and serves as secretary of the National Press Photographers Association.
Thom Gossom, Jr. '75
Thom is owner of JTG Public Relations Consulting, based in Los Angeles, where he is also an actor in television, commercials, and the theatre.
Paul Hemphill '59
Paul is a critically-acclaimed novelist and journalist. He lives in Atlanta.
Eric Ludgood '78
Eric is a vice president with CNN International, supervising the network's Atlanta-based production and writing staff. He also serves as producer of CNN World Report, which features news stories from 150 broadcasters worldwide.
Cindy McDaniel '80
Cindy is vice president of publications for the nonprofit, Atlanta-based Arthritis
Foundation and founder/publisher of Arthritis Today, a 750,000-circulation
consumer health magazine.
Carol Pappas '77
Carol is publisher of The (Talladega) Daily Home and a past president of the
Alabama Press Association.

Neal is president of The Ad Shop, Inc. in Marietta, Ga.
