Anita Newcomb ’76

“I’m just so thankful to Auburn for the foundation the university gave me through those four formative years.”

Newcomb graduated from Auburn University in 1976, earning a degree in accountancy from the then College of Business (now the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business). She went on to earn an MBA in finance from the University of Houston in 1987. Until December 2019, Newcomb served as president of A.G. Newcomb, a strategic consulting firm that provided customized strategic solutions for financial institutions.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Luther Burbank Corporation. Her experience spans over three decades in the financial services industry as a commercial banker, investment banker, and strategic consultant. She is considered one of the foremost experts on regional and community bank business models and trends in the United States. Anita has advised some of the country’s most successful banks as well as companies that interface with banks on a wide range of corporate development initiatives from strategic planning, consumer and business banking strategy and corporate governance best practices, to mutual conversions and valuing and structuring acquisitions.

Newcomb served as president, CEO and board member of ACB Business Partners, the for-profit subsidiary of America’s Community Bankers, a large national banking trade association. She spent ten years in investment banking and strategic consulting with three national firms. Early in her career, Newcomb was vice president of strategic planning and a senior mergers and acquisitions specialist at Security Pacific Corporation, which was at that time, the fourth-largest bank in the country. She was also an investor relations officer and corporate secretary with Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas.

In 2013, Anita was selected as the Auburn University’s School of Accountancy Alumna of the Year. She is a former member of the WLI Advisory Board and the Business Advisory Council. She is currently a member of the Samford Society, the Petrie Society, the Foy Society and is a life member of the Auburn Alumni Association. She has a daughter, Rachel, a 2010 graduate of Auburn.
